About Us

San Ramon Tamil School (SRTS) was founded with a simple but powerful purpose: to help the next generation connect with the Tamil language and the rich culture it carries.

Our roots run deep. For over 18 years, our founders and volunteers served the Tamil-learning community through the International Tamil Academy (ITA), one of the leading organizations dedicated to teaching Tamil to diaspora children and youth worldwide.

Building on that experience, we established San Ramon Tamil School as a locally focused, ITA-affiliated program, bringing the same commitment to language education closer to home for families in the Tri-Valley and Greater East Bay.

Our Mission

We teach Tamil — reading, writing, and speaking — to students of all ages and proficiency levels, from first-time learners to advanced speakers.

But language is only part of what we do. Through interactive classroom instruction and vibrant cultural programming, we help students discover Tamil literature, history, music, and traditions, giving them not just a skill but a living connection to their heritage.

What We Believe

Tamil is one of the world's oldest living languages, with over two thousand years of unbroken literary tradition and a grammar system admired by linguists worldwide.

We believe every child in our community deserves the chance to learn it and to understand why it matters.

What Sets Us Apart

We are powered entirely by dedicated volunteers — teachers, mentors, and parents who give their time because they believe in the mission. With nearly two decades of hands-on experience in Tamil language education, our team knows how to keep young learners engaged through storytelling, cultural events, drama, and conversation practice. Here, students don't just study Tamil — they enjoy it.
